Kirsters Baish| The left is trying to walk all over the Second Amendment, but President Donald Trump isn’t about to allow that to happen. Following the tragic school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida earlier this month, leftists and the mainstream media have been blaming a group that had exactly zero connection to the shooting, the National Rifle Association.
It all started with CNN’s organization of their “town hall” event, which was obviously a chance for the biased liberals to bash anyone who supports the Second Amendment and accuse the NRA and their spokesperson (Dana Loesch) of having blood on their hands for the school shooting.
Companies like Enterprise Rent-a-Car originally had discounted deals for NRA members… but they have started to tear up their agreements and made it clear that anyone who was a member of the NRA was unwelcome and their business was not wanted.
All of the pressure on the NRA, which is made up of roughly 5 million law-abiding American gun owners, could have made it hard on Trump to stick by the group, but he has been supporting the NRA with all he has, proving his loyalty to the Second Amendment.
Trump spoke with reporters as he was exiting the White House to go to a conservative conference and defended the NRA.
Trump explained, “These are good people, in many cases great people, they are patriots, they love our country. The NRA wants to do the right thing, I’ve been speaking to them.”
President Trump did admit that there were in fact issues within our country that do need to be taken care of. In particular, he mentioned mental health and school security. Breitbart News reported, “Trump said that he would fix the issue of mass shootings in schools, even though it had been a problem for years. He called for the end of gun-free zones at schools.”
President Trump stated, “You have to have a certain degree of offensive power within the school, it can’t always be defense.”
Conservative Tribune reported:
While he had respectful words for the millions of Americans who make up the NRA, Trump also took a very critical tone when talking about one of the sheriff’s deputies who reportedly waited for four minutes, armed but doing nothing, while children were murdered inside the school.
“He didn’t have the courage or something happened, he certainly did a poor job,” the president said of Scot Peterson, the school resource officer who has now resigned in disgrace.
Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel was unable to disguise his disappointment and anger in Deputy Peterson’s actions during the time of the shooting. Fox News reported that Sheriff Israel stated, “What matters is that when we, in law enforcement, arrive at an active shooter, we go in and address the target. And that’s what should’ve been done.”
The sheriff went on to explain that he had expected the Deputy Peterson or anyone else in law enforcement would have “went in, addressed the killer, killed the killer.”
It really is starting to look like officials at every level totally failed when it came to taking the threat seriously. Dozens of warnings were made to the law enforcement about Nikolas Cruz, but these threats were ignored or brushed off in every single case. This is why it doesn’t make any sense that the NRA is being blamed for the whole thing.
There is zero evidence that Cruz had any connection to the NRA at all. President Trump is right. NRA members are law-abiding Americans who support the Second Amendment, and it would be wrong to punish law-abiding Americans from something they had nothing to do with.
